Reflections For Living In Times of Covid19 - Psalm 85:9

Let's review the Psalm to this point: God has shown favour to His people, and has restored their captivity. He has forgiven and covered their sin. He has withdrawn His burning anger and indignation from them. He has been asked to restore and revive them again. He has been petitioned to show them His lovingkindness. He has spoken His peace, His SHALOM, to them.

In regards to the specific word salvation, YESHA in Hebrew, He is firstly declared to be the God of our salvation (v.4). As such, He is then called upon to grant us His salvation (v.7). And lastly, here in verse 9, we have a statement of trust: Surely His salvation is near to those who fear Him. And that is true: for everyone, Jew and Gentile, man and woman, free and slave alike. Near indeed: For He says, In the time of My favor I heard you, and in the day of salvation I helped you. I tell you, now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation. (2 Corinthians 6:2) And as Proverbs 19:23 states: The fear of the Lord is life indeed; filled with it one rests secure and suffers no harm.

And the end result of God's salvation so near and real to those who fear Him? The glory of God will dwell in their land. They themselves will live there, of course; but God's glory, the weight of His honour and His magnificence and His divine presence, will also dwell in their land together with them.

Now tell me: is that not what we want for our lives and for our lands as well?
